A Stochastic Analysis of Some Two-Person Sports II

چکیده
We establish a general formula for the game-winning probabilities in table tennis, which extends previous results by Schulman and Hamdan (1977). We use this formula to derive the probability distribution (and hence the expectation and variance) of the number of rallies necessary to achieve any given score. Our results also encompass, with minor modifications, similar results for the game of tennis. We use these findings to investigate (theoretically, and via Monte Carlo simulations) the implications of recent rule change imposed by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). Finally, we briefly indicate how our results can lead to more efficient estimation techniques of individual players’ abilities.

Progressive Type II Censored Order Statistics and their Concomitants: Some Stochastic Comparisons Results
In this paper we prove some stochastic comparisons results for progressive type II censored order statistics. The problem of stochastically comparing concomitants of the two progressive type II censored order statistics with possibly different schemes, under different kinds of dependence between X and Y is considered and it is proved that if Y is stochastically increasing (decreasing) in X, ...
متن کاملA Stochastic Analysis of some Two-Person Sports
We consider two-person sports where each rally is initiated by a server, the other player (the receiver) becoming the server when he/she wins a rally. Historically, these sports used a scoring based on the side-out scoring system, in which points are only scored by the server. Recently, however, some federations have switched to the rally-point scoring system in which a point is scored on every...
متن کاملA New Model for Location-Allocation Problem within Queuing Framework
This paper proposes a bi-objective model for the facility location problem under a congestion system. The idea of the model is motivated by applications of locating servers in bank automated teller machines (ATMS), communication networks, and so on. This model can be specifically considered for situations in which fixed service facilities are congested by stochastic demand within queueing frame...
متن کاملA new approach based on alpha cuts for solving data envelopment analysis model with fuzzy stochastic inputs and outputs
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a widely used technique for measuring the relative efficiencies of homogenous Decision Making Units (DMUs) with multiple inputs and multiple outputs. These factors may be evaluated in fuzzy or stochastic environment. Hence, the classic structures of DEA model may be changed where in two fold fuzzy stochastic environment. For instances, linearity, feasibility a...
متن کاملStability of two classes of improved backward Euler methods for stochastic delay differential equations of neutral type
This paper examines stability analysis of two classes of improved backward Euler methods, namely split-step $(theta, lambda)$-backward Euler (SSBE) and semi-implicit $(theta,lambda)$-Euler (SIE) methods, for nonlinear neutral stochastic delay differential equations (NSDDEs). It is proved that the SSBE method with $theta, lambdain(0,1]$ can recover the exponential mean-square stability with some...
